The US State Department is asking Twitter to not shut down for maintenance. Twitter the micro blogging social media website is one of the Iranians only means of communication. You can find breaking news on the unrest in Iran due to the sham election of Ahmadinejad by browsing Twitter search results for: #IranElection
Twitter had scheduled a maintenance downtime yesterday evening. But due to what likely were multiple requests (hashtag #nomaintenance) from the Twitter community who are Tweeting in solidarity with the Iranian protests they re-scheduled for today:

They may change their mind again, as Anderson Cooper reports:
State Department to Twitter: Keep Iranian tweets coming
Senior officials say the State Department is working with Twitter and other social networking sites to ensure Iranians are able to continue to communicate to each other and the outside world.

For example, senior officials say the State Department asked Twitter to refrain for going down for periodic scheduled maintenance at this critical time to ensure the site continues to operate.
