ABC’s Jake Tapper’s Expert Source: Obama’s Bow to Emperor Akihito of Japan “evoked weakness” Update: Video 46 hand shakes -one Obama bow

with 4 comments

Obama’s handshake/forward lurch was so jarring and inappropriate it recalls Bush’s back-rub of Merkel.

“Kyodo News is running his appropriate and reciprocated nod and shake with the Empress, certainly to show the president as dignified, and not in the form of a first year English teacher trying to impress with Karate Kid-level knowledge of Japanese customs.

“The bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Red State terms, but evoked weakness in Japanese terms….The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, again, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part.

Tapper’s friend also mentions Richard Nixon. (photo here)

“His [Obama's] bow is neither (1) unprecedented nor (2) a sign of cultural understanding.

“At their 1971 meeting in Alaska, the first visit of a Japanese Emperor to America, President Nixon bowed and referred to Emperor Hirohito and his wife repeatedly as ‘Your Imperial Majesties.’”

I don’t know, Nixon bowed from the shoulders. Not nearly as low as Obama’s bow. By a long shot. But I’ll give him the unprecedented. It is a bow.

Edit Nov 17 2009: On second thought Nixon may of been leaning in to listen. Either/or not subservience, not obeisance. Not in deference to Emperor Hirohito. A far cry from Obama’s waist deep (non-reciprocated) bow to Emperor Akihito signifying inferiority.

It may sound trite to say we need another Reagan. But damn it we do!

The White House covering Obama’s rear.

A senior administration official said President Barack Obama was simply observing protocol when he bowed to Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko upon arriving at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Saturday. “I think that those who try to politicize those things are just way, way, way off base,” the official said. “He observes protocol. But I don’t think anybody who was in Japan – who saw his speech and the reaction to it, certainly those who witnesses his bilateral meetings there – would say anything other than that he enhanced both the position and the status of the U.S., relative to Japan. It was a good, positive visit at an important time, because there’s a lot going on in Japan.”

Simply observing protocol? Orly anonymous white house spokesperson? I beg to differ.

Every picture tells a story.

How many Heads of State bowed to Akihito? – Freeper roses of sharon

Answer: One. Barack ‘obeisance’ Obama.

Jack Moss – Macsmind

The State Department should know better than to hoist up this lie.

Tidbit:  In Japanese custom when you bow (ojigi) to anyone you bow also to their ancestors as well. Thus in bowing to Japanese Emperor Akihito, he bowed to his father Emperor Shōwa, thus the despot that bombed Pearl Harbor.

Very wrong indeed.

Video: POTUS Obowma in Japan

with 2 comments

Obowma grovels across the globe BUT he demands American’s bow to him. Who in the hell does he think he’s fooling?

First he bows to Saudi King Abdullah…

Obama bow Saudi

…and now to add insult to injury he bows very low to Emperor Akihito of Japan (a powerless figurehead the son of Hirohito) which as you can clearly see –not reciprocated.

BUT spits on patriotic Americans.

We got his number.

How will Barack Obowma act in China? My guess is he will probably not only bow to Hu Jintao, but also kiss his feet. Heh

H/T Ed Morrissey

American Presidents do not bow to royalty.  In fact, heads of state do not bow or genuflect to each other in the normal course of diplomacy.  At least, they didn’t until this amateur came into office and failed to learn from the first time he did it.  What will the White House say this time?  He got stomach cramps?

Emphasis Ed’s

Yes my commentary is made up of  recycled tweets of  yours truly. They fit. I used them. There ya have it.
