Q   And then Senator Cornyn sent you guys a letter expressing concern about the tips at whitehouse.gov and what that meant, what exactly you were seeking in terms of disinformation. I got a statement from Linda Douglass earlier, and I assume that, just from what she suggests in her response, you guys are not going to be saving the names or the IP addresses, anything along those lines –

MR. GIBBS:  Nobody is collecting names.  This was — we have seen and as I’ve discussed from this podium, a lot of misinformation around health care reform, some of it I think spread purposefully.  We have used on many occasions the Web site to debunk things that are simply not true.  We ask people if they have questions about health care reform and about what they’re hearing about its effects on them to let us know and we provide them information to show that that wasn’t true.  But nobody is collecting names.

Q    But in — is it misinformation that in 2003, President Obama, then a state senator, supported a single-payer health care system?

MR. GIBBS:  I think, again, if you look at the statements that have been put up on other Internet sites that splice a bunch of stuff together,…

Robert dude, the splicing a bunch of stuff together is no longer an excuse you should be bandying about. Do try and keep up will you.

Q    Following up on what Jake asked about the fishy e-mails, would it be more likely to assume, Robert, that the White House would be curious about people who would be e-mailing them about things that they’d consider either disingenuous or inaccurate in order to keep in touch with them as part of an ongoing dialogue about their support for the White House efforts on health care — meaning you’re not looking for people who are saying things that are not accurate, but you’re looking for ways to always expand the number of folks who e-mail you or Organizing For America as a political tool to keep in touch with them?

MR. GIBBS:  Well, let’s — hold on.  Let me — I’m not entirely sure what the question was, but let me put down some fence posts in the speech.  OFA and the White House Web site, as you well know, are not in any way connected.  Point number one.

Reality check: Gibbs is splitting hairs. OFA  Organizing for America is just the re-named BarackObama.com which was initially put up during his campaign.

A Google search for Barack Obama returns these results. Barack Obama.com is Organizing for America. Obama is the White House.  So yes the White House is connected to Organizing for America. As they say, same diff.

A newer revamped header the Obama Camp switched to down the road.

And now that Obama in in the White House and the former BarackObama.com is now Organizing for America –administered by the DNC. I bet they are as thick as thieves. Same hornets nest, different name.

The new header for Organizing for America is still adorned with the Barack Obama official logo.

Nope the  “OFA and the White House Web site, as you well know, are not in any way connected” Not at all.  Gibb’s “fence post” turned to saw dust.

I wonder is up with the (’sun rays’? )surrounding the Obama symbol. That is new and way off base. Obama is hardly full of sunshine and light. More like the dark side of the moon.

Gibbs: Point number two, I think I was — as Jake vouched for the veracity of your statement, I think he will equally vouch for the veracity of mine in saying that I was pretty clear that we’re not collecting names from those e-mails.

Q    He was pretty clear.  (Laughter.)

MR. GIBBS:  I like the fact that, like, Jake is the arbiter here of –

Q    Well, I guess what I’m trying to figure out is –

Q    Ombudsman.  (Laughter.)

Q    What I’m trying to figure out is why ask for them then?  I mean, what’s the goal here?

MR. GIBBS:  Well, Major, as I said to you before, as I said to Jake before –

Q    And the staff that you have assembled here is obviously very capable of detecting all sorts of conversations in America about all sorts of issues and responding and putting together briefing points –

MR. GIBBS:  Well, it’s to get misinformation and to clarify for everybody what the misinformation is.  I don’t — I hope that’s not new.  It doesn’t certainly seem to be.

Q    What, the existence of so-called misinformation, or the White House soliciting –

MR. GIBBS:  No, the –

Q    — descriptions in e-mails?

MR. GIBBS:  — the White House looking to correct misinformation.  When you make a mistake in your report, sometimes I e-mail you; occasionally I call; sometimes I just throw something against the wall.  Occasionally it’s all three.

Excuse me…you are hosting an official White House press briefing NOT amateur comedy hour.

Q    You ask Jake if Major makes any mistakes in his reports.  (Laughter.)

Q    Never.

MR. GIBBS:  That would be — let’s not put Jake in that position.  But, Major, we’ve discussed in here seniors having a misimpression about what is contained in the bill.  We’ve talked about all sorts of things that are misconceptions in here.

Q    — all the thousands of people e-mailing the White House.

MR. GIBBS:  And all we’re asking people to do is if they’re confused about what health care reform is going to mean to them, we’re happy to help clear that up for you.  Nobody is keeping anybody’s names.  I do have your e-mail.  That is –

MR. GIBBS:  Maybe I assume that’s because I assume future mistakes, but I’m not going to say that.  (Laughter.)  But nobody is collecting information.  Everybody is trying to give people only the facts around what we all understand is a very complicated issue.

Q    Do you know how many e-mails have been sent to the flag at whitehouse.gov address?  And, secondly, isn’t the White House required by law to save all correspondence it receives, so will it be informing individuals whose e-mails have been forwarded that they might want to have a chance to correct the historical record about the alleged fishiness of their e-mails?

Major DODGE #one

MR. GIBBS:  I, for the life of me, didn’t understand your question.

Q    Is the White House required to save the e-mails?

MR. GIBBS:  Obviously, the National Archives documents correspondence with the White House.

Q  So the people whose e-mails have been forwarded, they won’t be informed that their e-mails are being forwarded to the government?

MR. GIBBS:  Maybe I’m missing something.  I’m sure you’re hashing some nefarious plot, but I, for the life of me, can’t understand it.

Yes, sir.

Q    Yes.  Thanks, Robert.  Yes, just to go back to the 2003 video, and separately from any question as to whether those were mischaracterization of the legislation, President Obama did say in 2003 that, I happen to be a proponent of single-payer universal health care plan.  As recently as last June he said — told the AMA there were some countries where a single-payer system works pretty well.  And I just want to ask, is that the President’s preference, or was it –

MR. GIBBS:  I think the President –

Q    — has it changed since that time?

Just answer the question Robert. That is YOUR JOB

MR. GIBBS:  The President’s preference on a health care plan he had an opportunity to outline, debate, and discuss in an almost two-year campaign for President from 2007 to 2008.

‘Ol Giblet has trouble keeping up. I am not sure of the date Fight the Smears was pulled, but this Google cache is dated July 7 2009. I posted on it on July 13, at 10:00 pm. The transcript of the WH Press Briefing (see below) is dated July 13, 2009 1:25 pm. And as a matter of fact Chelsea Schilling of WND put  an article up on the scrubbing on July 09, 2009. ( I should point out she is incorrect in saying: “…but content for each posting is no longer available”) As you can see from the cached link I’ve embedded above I was able to access the Obama birth certificate page via Google cache. It is simple once you know how.

Again Gibbs is a little slow on the uptake. As per usual he does not have many solid answers. Gibb briefs the press, but who briefs Gibbs?

Q    I appreciate it.  While you and the President were overseas on July the 7th, there was on the Internet a copy of a letter on White House letterhead dated January the 24th, 2009, with the signature “Barack Obama,” which stated “The place of my birth was Honolulu’s Kapi’olani Medical Center.”  And my question is, can you verify this letter?  Or if not, would you tell us which Hawaiian hospital he was born in, since Kapi’olani, which used to publicize this, now refuses to confirm?

MR. GIBBS:  Goodness gracious.  I’m going to be, like, in year four describing where it is the President was born.  I don’t have the letter at my fingertips, obviously, and I don’t know the name of the exact hospital.

Q    Can you check on this?

MR. GIBBS:  I will seek to interview whoever brought the President into this world.  But can we just — I want to do this once and for all, Lester.  Let’s just do this once and for all.  You can go on this — I hope you’ll take the time not just to Google “President, January 24, Hawaii hospital, birth” and come up with this letter, but go on the Internet and get the birth certificate, (Presumably Gibbs is referencing Obama’s ‘Fight the Smears’ where the alleged birth certificate was posted. Rot-Roh! “Sorry, ‘www.fightthesmears.com‘ does not exist or is not available” So where do you suggest he go Gibbs?) Lester, and put –

Q    It’s not a birth certificate.

MR. GIBBS:  I know.  (Laughter.)  Just a document from the state of Hawaii denoting the fact that the President was indeed born in the state of Hawaii.

Q    But it doesn’t say where he was born or who the doctor was.

MR. GIBBS:  You know, Lester, I — I want to stay on this for a second, Lester, I want to stay on this for a second, because you’re a smart man, right?

Q    Hypothetical.  (Laughter.)

MR. GIBBS:  All right, all right, settle down in here.  Only I get to make jokes like that.

No, Lester, let’s finish this one.  Do all of your listeners and the listeners throughout this country the service to which any journalist owes those listeners, and that is the pursuit of the noble truth.  And the noble truth is that the President was born in Hawaii, a state of the United States of America.  And all of this incredible back-and-forth — I get e-mails today from people who inexplicably can figure out very easily the White House e-mail address, and want proof of where the President was born.

Lester, the next time you ask me a question I’m going to ask you what reporting you’ve done to demonstrate to your listeners the truth, the certificate, the state, so that they can look to you for that momentous search for the truth, and you can wipe away all the dark clouds and provide them with the knowing clarity that comes with that certainty.

Oh dear where shall America go to view the illustrious *cough* fraudulent Barack Obama birth certificate certification of live birth now?

One thing for sure is Robert Gibbs does not have a clue.

See for yourself. This exchange is simultaneously sickening and amazing. The pathetic excuse for a WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs (Obama’s Minister of PropOganda) evading questions  his typical  contemptuous trade mark style, while Reid and Thomas dig in not wanting to let up.  You could of cut the friction with a knife.

I never thought I would live to see the day I cheered on Helen Thomas. But that day has arrived.

HELEN THOMAS: We have never had that in the White House. We have had some control [inaudible]. I’m amazed that you people who call for openness and transparency…

ROBERT GIBBS: You haven’t even heard the questions.

CHIP REID: It doesn’t matter. It’s the process.  Even if there’s a tough question, it’s a question coming from somebody who was invited and who was screened or the question was screened.

GIBBS: Chip, Chip, lets have this discussion at the conclusion of the town hall meetings.

THOMAS: No, no, no, we’re having it now.

GIBBS: Well, I’d be happy to have it now.

THOMAS: It’s a pattern.

GIBBS: Which questions do you object to at the town hall meeting?

THOMAS: It’s a pattern.

GIBBS: What’s a pattern?

THOMAS: It’s a pattern of controlling the press.

GIBBS: How so? Is there any evidence going on that I’m currently controlling the press? Poorly, I might add.

THOMAS: Your formal engagements are prepackaged.

GIBBS: How so?

REID: Well, and controlling the public.

THOMAS: How so? By calling reporters the night before to tell them they’re going to be called on. That is shocking.

GIBBS: We’ve had this discussion ad nauseum, and uh…

THOMAS: Of course you would, because you don’t have any answers.

GIBBS: Uh, well, because I didn’t know you were going to ask a question, Helen.

THOMAS: Well you should have.

GIBBS: Have you emailed your question today?

THOMAS: I don’t have to email. I can tell you right now what I want to say.

GIBBS: I don’t doubt that at all, Helen.

REID: Actually, could you pass along a question from all of us to the president: Is he going to support a tax increase on the middle class?

When Gibbs is speaking to the press he is speaking to the American people. When he replies in such a patronizing condescending tone, that is how he is speaking to all of us.

Helen Thomas had more to say after the fact. And she does not hold back.

[...] the White House micromanaging everything just the way Helen Thomas and Chip Reid knew they would do. Consider the similarity of the March 27 report with this one, published today by the Washington Post:

In the highly stage-managed event, questions for Obama came from a live audience selected by the White House and the college, and from Internet questions chosen by the administration’s own new-media team.

Of the seven questions the president answered, four were selected by his own staff from people who submitted videos on the White House Web site or who responded to a request for “tweets” from the administration.

The president called randomly on three audience members. Each turned out to be members of groups with close ties to his administration: the SEIU union, Health Care for America Now, and Organizing for America, which is a part of the Democratic National Committee. White House officials said that was a coincidence.
